Slide 2 - What is Sustainable Development? Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development is an organizing principle for meeting human development goals while also sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services on which the economy and society depend. The desired result is a state of society where living conditions and resources are used to continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system.
Slide 3 - Goals of Sustainable Development The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all".

Slide 5 - Goals of Sustainable Development No Poverty Aims to end poverty in all its forms, everywhere. For the first time, as part of the SDGs, countries have committed to reducing child poverty. Children experience poverty differently from adults – their needs and expectations are different, and for children, the effects of poverty can be lifelong. Nevertheless, child poverty is rarely differentiated from adult poverty, and its special dimensions are often not recognized.
Slide 6 - Goals of Sustainable Development Zero Hunger Aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030. The triple burden of malnutrition – undernutrition, hidden hunger and overweight – threatens the survival, growth and development of children and young people. Well-nourished children are better able to grow and learn, to participate in their communities and to be resilient in the face of disease, disaster and other emergencies.
Slide 7 - Goals of Sustainable Development GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING Aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages. Health and well-being are important at every stage of one’s life, starting from the beginning. This goal addresses all major health priorities: reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health; communicable and non-communicable diseases; universal health coverage; and access for all to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines and vaccines.
Slide 8 - Goals of Sustainable Development QUALITY EDUCATION Aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.  This goal supports the reduction of disparities and inequities in education, both in terms of access and quality. It recognizes the need to provide quality education for all, and most especially vulnerable populations, including poor children, children living in rural areas, persons with disabilities, indigenous people and refugee children.
Slide 9 - Goals of Sustainable Development GENDER EQUALITY Aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Gender equality is a human right. It is also a precondition for realizing all goals in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Slide 10 - Goals of Sustainable Development CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION Aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Water and sanitation are critical to the health of people and the planet. Goal 6 not only addresses the issues relating to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), but also the quality and sustainability of water resources worldwide. Improvements in drinking water, sanitation and hygiene are essential for progress in other areas of development too, such as nutrition, education, health and gender equality.
Slide 11 - Goals of Sustainable Development AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY Aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Sustainable energy is a critical enabler and dramatically improves the quality, accessibility and reliability of services that children rely on for their survival, development and well-being. In homes, for example, children need reliable access to modern lighting for their daily chores and to do homework after dark. And they need heating and cooling to stay comfortable. Health centers and schools require energy for lighting, operating medical devices and life-saving procedures, cooking, heating, cooling and digital connectivity. Low levels of electricity access are correlated with poor educational performance, lower attendance and a decreased ability to attract and maintain teachers.
Slide 12 - Goals of Sustainable Development DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH Aims to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. As this relates to children, Target 8.7 of this goal aims to eliminate the worst forms of child labour, including the recruitment and use of child soldiers, as well as to end all forms of child labour by 2025. Children around the world are considered to be engaged in child labour when they are either too young to work or are carrying out activities that could compromise their physical, mental, social and/or educational development. Child labour is both a cause and consequence of poverty, reinforcing social inequality and discrimination.
Slide 13 - Goals of Sustainable Development REDUCED INEQUALITIES Aims to reduce inequality within and among countries. Inequality starts with the lottery of birth – who your parents are and where you are born – that accounts for variation in the resources and opportunities available to people. The social and economic inequalities and disadvantages in early life can limit opportunities for the realization of one’s rights and the ability to realize one’s full potential.
Slide 14 - Goals of Sustainable Development CLIMATE ACTION Aims to combat climate change and its impacts by taking urgent action. Climate change and environmental degradation are equity issues that undermine the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged. The realization of children’s rights, as embedded throughout the SDGs, are contingent on taking action to address and adapt to climate change.
Slide 15 - Goals of Sustainable Development PEACE , JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTION Aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. Peace, stability, human rights and effective governance, based on the rule of law, are central to the realization of child rights, and a prerequisite for sustainable development. Governments can offer the first line of protection: birth registration systems give children claim to vital social services, equitable justice systems and other forms of child protection.
Slide 16 - Goals of Sustainable Development PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS Aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.  Partnerships are the glue for SDG implementation and will be essential to making the Agenda a reality. Goal 17 calls to strengthen the means of implementation and to build and enhance partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
Slide 17 - Education for Sustainable Development Education for sustainable development(ESD) is defined as education that encourages changes in knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to enable a more sustainable and just society for all. ESD aims to empower and equip current and future generations to meet their needs using a balanced and integrated approach to the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. ESD is the term most used internationally and by the United Nations.
